One of the most common and widely used North American woods, the Hard Maple is an eastern North American maple tree. While grown in abundance, it is more expensive to get the pure white sapwood. In flooring, you will get a combination of heart and sapwood in any hard maple. Maple hardwood is a very clean looking wood with not much grain at all, and very little colour variation which gives a very consistent look. If you don’t like much grain and want a smooth, even tone to your floor, maple is for you.

Grades: Select & Better is the highest standard grade of flooring available in the industry and has an excellent, clean, visual appearance. Each floor board will look very similar to the next, creating an overall uniform look and feel. Our Select & Better Grade is a combination of clear grade (30%) and select grade (70%). You will notice very minimal variation in the natural sapwood colour, very limited small character marks, pin knots or mineral streaks. There are no stains, checks or splits allowed in the Select & Better grade and it is the highest grade available to you.

Select grade shows more variation in the natural colouring and grain of the wood, and allows for small character markings, pin knots and mineral streaks. This grade is most often the preferred choice for builders. Some stains, checks and splits are allowed in the Select grade.

Character grade has a natural appearance displaying the full characteristics of the hardwood floor. All colour variations occurring naturally in the species are allowed. Small surface knots, flags, worm holes which occur naturally in the forest, and some mineral streaks are allowed. Splits, checks, holes, or voids, which is a wide space in the grain, are not allowed.
