This species is easy to recognize by the distinctive reddish brown coloration of its heartwood at maturity. Cherry heartwood flooring is of a light orange-brown coloration when it is installed however after a certain time period which can vary from several months to several years, it will attain color maturity and a beautiful red-brown tone. The light colored sapwood will remain of a cream or white color over time. It is also one of the softer hardwoods used for the commercial production of hardwood flooring.
Sapwood and heartwood mixed grade, limited mineral streaks permitted, limited sound or patched knots with openings up to 1/8″ permitted.
